WikiLeaks is a non-profit organisation that publishes secret information, news leaks and classified media provided by the anonymous source(wikipedia.com). This organisation published the war diaries of Afghanistan from 2004-2010, which also included the chats between military officials working under Bowe Berghdal's case and from locals who exchanged information about the white skin guy with blue eyes( Bowe's). The WikiLeaks gather these data secretly without our knowledge and permission. It makes us feel that there is no room for privacy in this world. The people working in this organisation is extremely smart and know exactly what they want to accomplish through this intel. When the chats were published in 2010 that consisted truth with concrete details, everyone was shocked. The conversations between soldiers, officials, Sargent, agents, locals, reporters were provided with descriptions and timings that one cannot ignore. The information published by Wikileaks consisted details about the methods of investigation used by officials to find Bowe Berghdal like checking roads, cars, houses and even women closets. A local described how the officials were extremely close to the house where Bowe was kept under a Burkha. Someone mentioning about Bowe looking for someone who spoke English and then was captured in the middle of the street by motor riders with weapons and forcefully put him on a motorbike. These details were mostly aligned with the truth. Bowe said almost the same things with vague details because he was blindfolded but some soldiers who were looking for Bowe agreed that it is right. Although, some information recorded from locals were not entirely true because their goal was to mislead officials and other people who were looking for Bowe. However, I would say most of it was true because nobody rejected it.
Hi Zeel, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post. Your first paragraph was formatted very nicely. I share your suspicion of WikiLeaks. The organization certainly keeps the government on it's toes, but I do believe WikiLeaks has a personal agenda as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ron for your opinion on my blog! I agree that Wikileaks has it's own agenda and they exists for better(sometimes).
DeleteHi, you bring up some very important questions in your first paragraph! I agree with your opinion on WikiLeaks as well. It's crazy to even know if we have any privacy. But at the same time, I think its very nice to know that we have ways of getting information on other countries without them knowing. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Bhavisha! thanks for commenting. I know it's creepy that we're always being spied on but the information they publish are classified and can create a problem for US govt. sometimes. Anyways, we are happy to get to know the truth that US does not provide us(regular people).
DeleteHey I really enjoyed reading your post, we shared the same opinions, I think Wikileaks is really important for the society.
ReplyDeleteHey Nathan! Thanks for commenting. I agree that Wikileaks is important for people like us who don't have security clearance for secret information. We can use them for our assignments lol :)
DeleteI agree with you that most of the information from both sides were supporting each other. The transcript from WikiLeak was not much clear, but it was understandable and supportive for the correspondents' statements.
ReplyDeleteHey Shaharia, Thanks for commenting. I agree that Wikileaks information was vague but it gave us some idea about the stories told by Bowe, officials and local afghans.
